The Sheepfold is a “simple church.”  What’s that?

Here’s a quick overview:

Who’s in charge?

God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

Who teaches?

Whoever wants to, according to their gifting and calling.

Do you have a denominational affiliation?

Nope.

What is “simple church” like?  What do you do?

The Sheepfold is simple, informal.  It’s modeled on Acts 2:42-47.  Most weekly gatherings include a shared meal, prayer, teaching, praise and worship.

What about music?

The Scripture says to “make a joyful noise unto the Lord,” and we do (within reason)!   Music may include a variety of old and new as well as accompaniment by guitar, CD, or plain ‘ole acapella!

What about accountability?

As  Dr. Dan Allender writes in The Healing Path:

“When we think of sojourning together for a common purpose, many Christians think only of `holding each other accountable’ – making sure (‘in love,’ of course) that everyone is ‘doing their part for the kingdom.”

But accountability is not the process of chiding one another to be more faithful, nor is it merely encouraging others to be what they were meant to be.  Rather, it is sitting back at the end of the day on the porch with other kingdom workers, laughing about Don’s earlier efforts not to embarrass a man talking to him, who had a chunk of ravioli stuck to his tie.  Or it’s laughing together at a weekend retreat until tears stream down our faces and cause the retreat center’s owners to look at us like we’re mad.  We are meant to weep together, marvel about each other, and with gratitude, let the sun set.  ‘Accountability’ means to recount the day together.” (The Healing Path, p. 253.)

We’re part of House Church Central and the Washington State Organic Church Association.

“What’s in it for me”?

The short answer: It’s not about you.  Simple church is about us. Simple church is community of believers going forward with God on an amazing journey to build His kingdom.

What’s Your Distinctive Characteristic?

Hopefully we don’t have one.  But we try to keep things simple by keeping Christ central.  We’d also like to be known for our love for Christ and each other.

What’s the Hardest Part About Simple Church?

There’s no place to hide!  You can’t just sit back and watch as a passive spectator.  Everyone is expected to participate.  Everyone contributes.

As we gather together to worship, serve, share and grow as believers in Jesus Christ, we look to extend our fellowship beyond our gatherings so it spills over into daily life.  We’re a community, not a weekly event.

Is Simple Church For Me?

Only you can make that call.  We found that the kind of intimate walk with Christ we wanted wasn’t available in the institutional church.   Freed from buildings, budgets, big shots and age-segregated “programming”, we can focus our time and energy more fully on Him, His people, and those who don’t yet know Him.

The Sheepfold – – “No buildings, no budgets, no big shots.”
